Grandmom Hamilton

I know a someone that I enjoy spending time with, but don't get enough time to do so. This person is Rich's grandmother, whom is referred to by family as "grandmom". She is one of my favorite people and I would like think I am one of hers as well. Barely five feet tall, one would think that she is a meek little sort of person, but this is not the case. Grandmom is full of perk and spunk with a dash of wit thrown in for good measure. Her stories never bore, her cooking never displeases and her worldly knowledge never fails. She is a master at crossword puzzles, bird identification, sewing of all sorts and cookie making. She is the grandmother emulated by so many and I am proud to be a part of her life.

Today I had the privilege to share a crossword puzzle with her. I left it in her charge while I went to the store with other family members. Upon my return, there were the answers to the 6 letter word for "disposes of" and the 4 letter word for "night fliers". "Of course!" I reply as I scan the puzzle. Why didn't I know those answers as quickly as she? She perches humbly upon a chair, unassuming and sweet. I quickly don her the queen of wisdom and all things unknown. Grandmom doesn't solve crossword puzzles; she solves life.

As we prepared to leave tonight, my hug lasted a bit longer than they have before. Grandmom just knows when I need them to go a bit further than usual. We marveled at how we had seen each other for 2 months straight now and 2010 should bring us creating a habit of frequent visits. Rich and I said our thank yous and good byes and headed out for the ride back home. I was noticably quiet and he asked what I was thinking. I told him what grandmom and I had discussed before we left and how we are going to try to see each other more often in 2010. He squeezed my hand which told me he understands. I know that what I write about grandmom isn't just from my heart but his as well. What a great gift God gives us when he gives us a "grandmom". Everyone needs a grandmom.
